Colorado Water
Colorado will have another summer of low flows in state rivers, according to the Denver Post [May 31, 2004, "Low rivers lift drought concerns"]. From the article, "Near-normal moisture for April and May may have temporarily painted the Front Range foothills a lush green, but conditions in the Western Slope mountain basins where the Denver area draws much of its water are as dry or drier than in 2002, when a record drought shocked a state grown complacent by years of ample moisture...On Friday, a stream gage above Denver Water's Dillon Reservoir recorded a flow of just 65 cubic feet per second, the lowest mark for the date in 46 years of record-keeping. The situation on the Blue and other upper Colorado River tributaries is unlikely to improve as the remaining snowpack measures only 19 percent of the long-term average."
