Denver November 2004 Election

John Walsh: "I cannot thank you all enough for your energetic and enthusiastic support at the Democratic Assembly last Saturday, May 8! Not only did your support successfully take me past the 30% threshold to get onto August's Democratic primary ballot -- defeating one of the two institutional candidates outright - but your vocal support for the new ideas and energy that I bring to this race was enormously important."

Colorado Water

The Colorado River is forecast to be about 60% of it's normal self this year, according to the Rocky Mountain News [May 14, 2004, "Colorado River expected to be lower than average"]. From the article, "The Colorado River is the state's largest and supplies water to millions of people from Grand Lake all the way to Los Angeles. It provides roughly half of the metro area's water supplies. Nearly 200 people in Summit and Grand counties gathered this week to hear summer weather and stream flow predictions for the river. The predictions are key to reservoir levels at such high-profile recreation spots as Dillon and Green Mountain reservoirs in Summit County and Lake Granby in Grand County. Denver Water, which owns Dillon Reservoir, said it hopes to fill the lake well past the 80 percent mark and could top it off if the spring delivers prolonged wet weather. But the Berthoud-based Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District said Lake Granby - Colorado's second largest reservoir - will fill to just 55 percent of capacity."

2004 Presidential Election

Sue Casey, former Mayoral candidate and City Councilwoman, will be heading up Senator John Kerry's campaign in Colorado, according to the Denver Post [May 14, 2004, "Veteran Dem Susan Casey heads Kerry push in Colo."]. From the article, "Casey, 55, is expected to oversee all state campaign operations, including get-out-the-vote efforts, for Massachusetts' junior senator, said Kerry spokeswoman Laura Capps. A field director and other members of a Colorado team for Kerry's campaign will be announced next week, she added...Casey first worked in politics in 1980, organizing for Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy's campaign for the presidency. She also helped manage Colorado Sen. Gary Hart's presidential campaign in 1984, and former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey's brief 1992 presidential campaign."

Abortion rights and Roman Catholic politicians are the subject of this article from the Denver Post [May 14, 2004, "Bishop draws line for voters"]. From the article, "The bishop of Colorado's second-largest Roman Catholic diocese has issued a pastoral letter saying Catholics cannot receive Communion if they vote for politicians who support abortion rights, stem-cell research, euthanasia or gay marriage. Only after citizens reverse their positions and repent for their sins in the confessional would access to the central ritual of the church be restored, Colorado Springs Bishop Michael Sheridan instructed 125,000 Catholics in his charge."

Iraq and the economy continue to dog the administration 6 months before the election, according to Taegan Goddard.
