2004 Presidential Election

Blogs for Bush: "The Latest Ipsos-Public Affairs poll conducted for the Associated Press has some interesting things to say. First off, they over-sampled Democrats; according to their own data, 75% of their respondents were registered voters and of these registered voters 49% were Democrats and 42% were Republicans. Keep that in mind: 1/4 of the polling respondents are not likely to vote at all, and of the remainder, Democrats are over-polled - this skews the results in favor of the Democrats and against President Bush. In the poll, 56% say that the country is on the 'wrong track'. Pretty bad - 'cept that 60% in this poll were saying 'wrong track' back in March and, once again, we've oversampled Democrats who are much more likely to say 'wrong track' than either independents or GOPers. Among registered voters polled, its pretty much a wash on the President's job approval - 50% approve, 48% disapprove; you wonder if they had polled, say, 42% Dems and 42% GOPers what that number would be like, don't you?"

Update: WJZ.com: "Bad news for Bush here in Maryland...At one point, Bush enjoyed an approval rating as high as 74%, in the months following the September 11th attacks. Now, the President's approval rating has sunk to 39% and now 54% of Marylanders disapprove of his job performance. If the election was held today, only 38% of voters would cast their ballots for the incumbent President. Meanwhile, 52% say they would vote for Democratic candidate John Kerry."

Update: Taegan Goddard: "Florida: Bush 50%, Kerry 43%, Other 7% (Survey USA)."

Denver November 2004 Election

The New Democratic Network hopes to raise $5 million to woo hispanic voters to the Democratic side of aisle, according to the Denver Post [June 15, 2004, "Ads zero in on Hispanics"]. From the article, "The New Democrat Network is buying advertising on television networks Univision and Telemundo and on Spanish-language radio stations in Denver and Colorado Springs. Maria Cardona, senior vice president of the network, said the group added Colorado because it has emerged as a battleground state in this year's presidential election."

The National Federation of Independent Business will host the first debate for candidates for the U.S. Senate from Colorado on July 1st, according to the Denver Business Journal. From the article, "It will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Gates Concert Hall inside the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver campus, 2344 E. Iliff Ave." Thanks to MakesMeRalph for the link.

Update: Village Voice: "Since pollsters recently realized that never married, divorced, and widowed females make up the largest untapped voting bloc-some 22 million single women registered to vote skipped the 2000 election, and 16 million never signed up at all-both major parties have been engaged in a desperate and unseemly scuffle for their votes."
