Holtzman for Governor?
Colorado Pols: "We hear that the Governor Line is about to need a major revamp. Marc Holtzman is widely rumored to be out of the race 'suspending his campaign' for Governor (with a story about devoting his time to fighting Referenda C&D)."

Bayh for President?
Political Wire: "Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) 'apparently enjoyed New Hampshire so much when he visited last month that he plans to return in the fall,' the Manchester Union Leader reports. 'We've confirmed that Bayh, a possible 2008 Presidential contender, will be the featured speaker at the state Democratic Party's Jefferson-Jackson fund-raiser on Oct. 29 at the Center of New Hampshire Radisson Hotel. It's an important fund-raiser for state Dems, second only to the 100 Club event held each winter.'"

Opinions You Should Have: "The White House announced today that President Bush would henceforth determine the scientific curriculum to be taught in America's schools. The announcement came immediately after Bush endorsed the teaching of intelligent design...Dr. James Dobson, founder of the rightwing Christian group Focus on the Family, applauded Bush's plans to eliminate scientists from science. 'It just puts all four of my humours into complete harmony,' he said. Critics were less sanguine, however. 'If George Bush is for teaching intelligent design in schools,' said Professor and biologist Byron Glick, 'it proves that there isn't any.'"

Political Wire: "'Jockeying for the 2008 Iowa Caucauses has started as political advertisements hit the airwaves,' KETV-7 reports. One TV commercial says that New York Gov. George Pataki (R) is 'thinking about running for president, and the ad is running this week in central Iowa.' The advertisements comes as several potential candidates, including Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN), Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) and Pataki, make trips to the state."

The Moderate Voice: "This is nice. As reported by Media Matters, Focus on the Family's James Dobson, one of the leading figures on the evangelical right, recently compared stem-cell research to Nazi experimentation on living human beings."

Water Mitigation
A picture named uppermcpheesmall.jpgHere's an article from the Denver Post about Aurora's efforts to fit in with the communities where they are buying water rights [August 5, 2005, "Aurora taps into ranch's water, history"]. From the article, "Aurora is fighting what it calls an unjust reputation as a heartless water-grabber that soaks up water rights from rural communities with little regard for history and townspeople. For four decades, Aurora has bought water rights in the Arkansas, South Platte and Colorado river basins to serve its growing population. Critics say Aurora is putting farmers out of work and damaging local economies. But Aurora says it offers fair compensation for water rights while helping communities. City officials point to their work in Lake County, where Aurora has helped to preserve open space and is working to save historic buildings."

Referendums C and D
The Independence Institute is under fire for their activities in opposition to Referendum C, according to the Denver Post [August 5, 2005, "Budget reform battle heats up"]. From the article, "The Independence Institute has violated Colorado campaign laws in its fight against a budget-reform measure on this fall's ballot, according to a complaint filed Thursday with the secretary of state. The backers of Referendums C and D accused the Independence Institute of funneling discounted staff time and out-of- state contributions into a campaign against the ballot measures."
