Coyote Gulch is taking off for a few days. We're heading down the two lane blacktop for some camping and a soak or two in the springs around here.

Referendums C and D
Here's an opinion in defense of Referendums C and D written by Governor Owens from today's Rocky Mountain News [August 6, 2005, "Speakout: State needs help of Refs C & D; TABOR protections unaffected"]. The Guv writes, "It's time to clear the air on the subject of Referendums C and D. It is unfortunate that some have already resorted to misleading rhetoric in an attempt to defeat a plan that is balanced, realistic and fiscally conservative. I was one of the earliest proponents of the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights and I remain an enthusiastic champion. I also am a strong supporter of C and D. As a fiscal conservative, I can assure you that all of the taxpayer protections contained in TABOR will remain in TABOR with the passage of C and D this November."

Here's an article about Mark Holtzman and his new focus, defeating Referendums C and D, from the Denver Post [August 6, 2005, "Holtzman on anti-referendum trail"]. From the article, "Republican Marc Holtzman announced Friday that he would shift the focus of his campaign for governor over the next few months to defeating this fall's budget-reform initiatives. Holtzman said the move was necessary to block what he called the largest tax increase in state history, and he invited his primary rival, U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez, to join him in a road trip across the state."

Holtzman for Governor?
Mark Holtzman is still in the race for governor, according to the Rocky Mountain News [August 6, 2005, "Holtzman not out of race"]. From the article, "The rumors of Marc Holtzman's political demise have been greatly exaggerated. Holtzman insisted Friday that his campaign for governor is very much alive."
