Frist for President?
Bill Frist has launched a new website Secure America's Borders. From the site, "Welcome to www.SecureAmericasBorders.com. We built this website to gather the opinions of Americans who are concerned about the security of our borders and who believe our immigration policy should be reformed."

Bull Moose: The Moose cautions the donkey about being seduced by the dove."

Bill Moyers: "One of the biggest changes in politics in my lifetime is that the delusional is no longer marginal. It has come in from the fringe, to sit in the seat of power in the Oval Office and in Congress. For the first time in our history, ideology and theology hold a monopoly of power in Washington. Theology asserts propositions that cannot be proven true; ideologues hold stoutly to a worldview despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality. The offspring of ideology and theology are not always bad but they are always blind. And that is the danger: voters and politicians alike, oblivious to the facts."

Ritter for Governor?
The Colorado Pols are reporting the Bill Ritter is defending Referendums C and D in a press release they received today. They write, "Ritter took aim at John Andrews, Marc Holtzman and Bob Beauprez over Referenda C&D. The salvo was a response to an article in today's Rocky Mountain News about a new ad from the 'NO on C&D' camp funded by Andrews' Backbone America Citizen's Alliance. The ad takes a partisan angle by portraying all Ref. C&D supporters as Democrats, which is a decent political strategy. What concerns Ritter, and in fairness is more than a little sneaky, is the 'fuzzy math' the ad speaks of."

Run Newt Run?
Our favorite moderate, the Bull Moose writes, "Does a Gingrich '08 run sound far-fetched? Perhaps, but initial polls demonstrate he still has a following among the GOP faithful. And he is perfectly situated to run against the 'betrayal' of the 1994 Republican revolution that has fallen into a big government, big money, big corruption abyss...Run Newt, run!"

Political Wire: "New York Gov. George Pataki (R) plans to visit Iowa in September to deliver the keynote address at the annual meeting of the Cedar Rapids area Chamber of Commerce, the AP reports. 'Since last year's Republican National Convention in New York City, Pataki has been courting party leaders in Iowa and New Hampshire, traditional home to the first presidential primary.'"

Referendum C
The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that opponents of Referendum C plan to air a new radio ad today [August 18, 2005, "New anti-Ref C ad airs today on radio"]. From the article, "The Referendum C advertising skirmish continues today, as an ad attacking the Democratic Party and painting the tax reform measure as a partisan issue begins airing on a Denver radio station. Former state Senate President John Andrews, a Centennial Republican and leader in the opposition to Ref C, paid for the ad through an issue committee of his Backbone America Citizen's Alliance...In the final draft of its (Colorado Legislative Council) Ref C analysis, the nonpartisan Blue Book, which was prepared this month and will be mailed to voters across the state to provide information on ballot issues, says Ref C would cost taxpayers an average of $491 over five years."

Here's the link to the Backbone America website if you want to listen to the ad.
