Referenda C and D
The Rocky Mountain News is reporting the many Coloradans are unaware of the details behind Referendums C and D [August 20, 2005, "Average Joe fuzzy on Ref C, TABOR"]. From the article, "(James) Philyah's response is typical of at least half the 20-some people the News stopped at random two weeks ago to ask what they knew of TABOR, Referendum C and its companion measure, Referendum D."

If you run across any voters with questions point them to Coyote Gulch.

Here's an opinion piece in favor of Referendum C from the Rocky Mountain News [August 20, 2005, "The bottom line / Pro"]. From the article, "The business case for passage of Referendums C and D is compelling. Colorado constantly competes for jobs and the ability to grow and attract vital industry clusters in a very competitive global market. Infrastructure plays a critical role in that equation."

Here's an opinion piece in opposition to Referendum C, from the Rocky Mountain News [August 20, 2005, "The bottom line / Con"]. From the article, "Listening to the pitch made by proponents of Referendums C and D reminds me of Harold Hill, the slick salesman in The Music Man who invented a 'crisis' to peddle his musical instruments."

Meanwhile the Rocky reports that Colorado's budget constraints limit our state government growth more than in any other state [August 20, 2005, "State spending hike well below average"]. From the article, "Colorado expects to spend less than 1 percent more on government services this fiscal year than last, while nationwide, spending growth will be almost 6 percent, a new study shows. The numbers are evidence that Colorado is hamstrung by the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, unable to recover from the recession like other states, say some analysts as well as the proponents of Referendums C and D on the November ballot."
