Congressional Backlash
Here's a new poll from Pew Research. They're saying, "By a 57% to 29% margin, a majority of Democrats say they want most of Congress replaced, and independents agree (by a 59% to 29% margin). Roughly half of Republicans (49%) say they want to see most members keep their jobs. But even among Republicans, nearly a third (32%) say they would like to see most incumbents voted out."

Denver Water rates to increase 8%
As expected Denver Water voted to raise rates yesterday, according to the Denver Post [September 15, 2005, "Denver Water raises rates"]. From the article, "Denver Water's residential customers will see their bills increase by an average of 8 percent next year following a decision Wednesday by the utility's board of commissioners. The board raised consumption and service charges and adopted a new rate structure that will boost the bills of high-volume water users. After the new rates go into effect in January, most residential customers will see their bills rise an average of $20 to $30 a year. Utility officials say the new rates will generate an additional $12 million to cover a projected budget shortfall caused by dwindling water sales and rising operating costs."
Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News [September 15, 2005, "Denver Water plans rate hike"].
Colorado's basins are in pretty good shape, according to the Rocky Mountain News [September 15, 2005, "Winter key to water recovery"]. From the article, "The state's water supply is 98 percent of average, with the South Platte Basin, which supplies Denver, the lowest in the state at 86 percent of average, said Gillespie."

Referenda C and D
Here's an article from the Denver Post about the new TV ad, featuring Marc Holtzman, in opposition to Referendums C and D [September 15, 2005, "Refs. C, D ad throws fat on the fire"]. From the article, "Gubernatorial candidate Marc Holtzman jumped into the battle over this fall's budget referendums by appearing in a television ad Wednesday that ignited nasty rhe toric between Republicans on opposite sides of the campaign. In the ad, Holtzman accuses proponents of Referendums C and D - who include his former boss, Gov. Bill Owens - of wanting a $5 billion "blank check" for pork-barrel spending projects. The ad includes a clip of snorting pigs to emphasize the point."
Coyote Gulch saw the ad last night but failed to get the URL. We don't know if the ad is posted online anywhere but we're looking.
Here's an opinion piece in support of Referendums C and D from the Denver Post [September 15, 2005, "Take caution, voters"]. From the article, "As the tragedy in New Orleans makes clear, strong government services are essential to the health and well-being of society."
Supporters of the referendums rallied at the State Capital last night, according to the Rocky Mountain News [September 15, 2005, "Rain doesn't deter C, D supporters"]. From the article, "The walkers converged on the state Capitol for an evening rally, where they were greeted by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. About 300 people heard both Republican and Democratic legislators predict that Colorado will face dire consequences if voters turn down the referendums in November."
