GIS Week
I wonder why I didn't hear about this from the GIS kids in Denver? This is the kind of thing that would be on a weblog if the City would allow us to post them to the public.

From the Denver Business Journal article, "Hundreds of professionals will gather at Invesco Field at Mile High Sept. 21-23 to learn about developments in global positioning systems, lidar, surveying, geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing.

"The 18th annual GIS in the Rockies Conference will feature more than 60 booths and provide participants with opportunities to observe demonstrations of hardware, software, data and other services to help them better use the technology.

"In recognition of the importance of GIS to the state, Gov. Bill Owens recently issued an honorary proclamation declaring this week as GIS Systems Week in Colorado."

On second thought they did send notification earlier in the year.

Western Primary?
From the Provo Daily Herald, "If Utah Gov. Huntsman and his New Mexico counterpart, Gov. Bill Richardson, have their way, Western states will have a greater say in the 2008 presidential election by holding primary elections on the same day. Huntsman, a Republican, and Richardson, a Democrat, are seeking to revive the idea of a Western states primary for the presidential election. So far, Utah and New Mexico are the only states seriously on board, while Montana, Colorado and Arizona have expressed interest. We hope they sign on, along with Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming."

Thanks to the Western Democrat for the link.

Josh Marshall writes, "Oh that's a good sign. The Office of Federal Procurement Policy handles procurement policy for the White House's Office of Management and Budget. Until Friday the Administrator of the office was David Hossein Safavian. Today he was arrested on a three count indictment."

Owens vs. Caldara
Governor Owens and Jon Caldara had a little face-time with the Longmont Daily Times-Call. From the article, "'I'm a strong proponent of TABOR,' Owens said recently, noting that he's been a booster of such tax and revenue limits in speeches he's made 'all over the country.'

"After Colorado voters adopted TABOR in 1992, it successfully checked state government's growth during the economic boom years of the late 1990s and 'helped us avoid spending too much in the good years,' Owens told members of the Daily Times-Call editorial board last month...

"'Quite simply, the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights saved Colorado's fiscal fanny,' Caldara said during his own meeting with the newspaper's editorial board recently."

Huckabee for President?
According to Oval Office 2008 Mike Huckabee has confirmed that he is exploring a run at the GOP nomination for president in 2008.

Political Wire: "In a hypothetical 2008 matchup surveyed by Rasmussen Reports, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) leads Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) by 8 percentage points, 47% to 39%. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) holds a 4-point edge over Clinton, 47% to 43%. In a GOP 2008 primary, however, Giuliani leads McCain, 31% to 28%. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is the only other Republican in double digits at 19%."

Katrina - Cut the Pork
A picture named porkbusters.jpg

Instapundit (and others) are hoping to mobilize the blogosphere in an effort to reduce unnecessary government spending to help with relief for the victims of hurricane Katrina. Thanks to TalkLeft for the link.

Romanoff for Governor?
Is Andrew Romanoff going to run for governor? SoapBlox Colorado writes, "More importantly, perhaps, is that if Romanoff were to run, he'd have to beat Ritter to get the nod. Right now courting and connecting with the Dems at the local level seems the most important thing for a potential candidate to do, meeting the folks who make the decisions, attend the functions, and give the campaign donations at the county through precinct level."
