2003 Denver Mayoral Election
The drought is at the center of this year's mayoral election according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "But not in Denver. Here, in an effort to ensure a water utility that was powerful and buffered from political fights, voters approved an independent agency in 1959. The agency is governed by a five-member board, which is appointed by the mayor."
The Denver Post is running an in-depth look at DPS and the views of the mayoral candidates on the public schools. From the article, "Mayors don't run schools in Colorado - school boards do. But it's easy to see why a mayor would want a say. DPS consumes most of Denver's property taxes and educates most of its children."
Penfield Tate offerred up his budget proposals Sunday, as highlighted in this article from the Denver Post. Furloughs for employees are on his mind, "Ideally, workers would have some selection in the process of deciding who is furloughed when, Tate said. He said he has spoken with some city workers about the possibility of the furlough. 'They all said they would much rather take a furlough than have people laid off,' he said."
Sunday's Denver Post has an editorial endorsing John Hickenlooper for mayor. I haven't been able to find a link on their website yet. Update: Here it is.
