2003 Denver Mayoral Election - 5280 Magazine
Daniel Brogan posted this comment in response to my questioning the editorial independence of the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post in my post on April 19th:
"5280 has also endorsed Hickenlooper (the print edition of our May issue will be out the week of April 28; in the meantime, the endorsement is available on our website). Does this mean we're also in cahoots with the DNA?"
Ouch, but thanks for whacking me upside the head. I'm sorry I missed your comment until today Mr. Brogan.

Here's the article about 5280 Magazine endorsing John Hickenlooper. From the article, "But for all that's changed, some things have come full circle. Once again, Denver finds itself in an economic slump. Once again, the city is in need of new energy. And once again, Hickenlooper thinks he understands what the city wants and needs."
I guess I'll have to buy a copy of the magazine now and figure out what Mr. Brogan does over at 5280. Update: He is the Editor and Publisher of 5280 Magazine. I'm honored that you visited Coyote Gulch Mr. Brogan. Maybe I can buy you a beer at the Wynkoop sometime.

2003 Denver Election for City Council - District 1
The Rocky Mountain News has a story about a bit of nastiness in the race for City Council District 1. From the article, "Politics in northwest Denver have been down-and-dirty for decades, but even longtime politicos are stunned by the nastiness in the District 1 race."
I live in District 1 and I'm shocked at the perception that politics up here can take a nasty turn at times. Well, not really.

2003 Denver Municpal Election
Denver voters, DenverGov is providing a quick way to locate your council district, polling place, and precinct number , along with a personalized candidate list. The lookup didn't work for my address. Oh well. It looks like it was a browser problem. Safari on the Mac didn't work but Netscape on the Mac is OK. Update: Not a browser problem. Don't enter a street direction if you live north of Ellsworth. The lookup application won't find your information. I entered N before Osceola St. and it failed.

2003 Denver Mayoral Election
Susan Casey took off the gloves yesterday, with two weeks remaining until the election, according to the Denver Post. She is accusing Mayor Webb of finding permanent city jobs for appointees before he leaves office. She says that she's not attacking Mayor Webb. She claims to be concerned with the effect of appointees moving to Career Service positions would have on the next mayor. From the article, "Casey also said any current city employee who takes a top job in her administration will give up Career Service status, which offers job protection." Ms. Casey believes that she can get by with far fewer appointees than the Webb administration. John Hickenlooper says that he'll beg some of the appointees to stay. I hope he'll talk with the effected agencies first. That's what Don Mares plans to do.
