Slate covers the expected process in which Gibraltar is expected to turn over to the Spanish after being controlled by Great Britain since 1713, close to three hundred years. The Treaty of Utrecht which gave Gibraltar to the British also gave them the Hudson Bay Territory, Newfoundland and Acadia from France. The Canadian government is unlikely to follow Britain's lead and return these parcels of land.

Canucks in Kandahar

Like many European countries there is some concern over the treatment of al-Qaeda And Taliban prisoners by the US including any captured by Canadian troops and turned over to the US. The CBC reports on how Canadian Deputy Prime Minister John Manley wants the US to discuss how they will separate PoWs from unlawful combatants with the former having considerably more rights.

The Canadian Press reports that the commander of the 3rd brigade of the U.S. army's 101st Airborne Division, Col. Frank Wiercinski is impressed with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group and its capabilities. Its expected its first mission will be to patrol the airport and its perimeter.
