The Christian Science Monitor rightly points out that until more details of the Saudi peace plan are known its difficult to take seriously, and it may just be a smoke screen to deflect attention from the role of Saudi nationals in the September 11 attacks. The New York Daily News is even less impressed by the plan.

Israeli troops entered (Jerusalem Post, Ha'aretz, New York Times) Palestinian refugee camp for the first time in a bid to root out Fatah terrorists. In the fighting 13 Palestinians and one Israeli were killed as Israeli troops conducted house to house searches for weapons and bombs. One commentator suggests the attack was in response to the recent wave of attacks on Israeli checkpoints and the bombing of a Merkava tank on February 14.

The New York Times has a story on how the Pentagon relaxed the security requirements for a planned military communications network in a way that allowed a weakening Global Crossing to remain in the bidding for the lucrative contract. This included allowing the people running the network linking working on military projects to no longer near clearances to handle secret information. Global Crossing is based in Bermuda.
