Canucks in Kandahar

The Globe and Mail reports that more Canadian troops are being sent to Afghanistan as the biggest offensive by US and Allied troops of the year starts against Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters in the eastern Paktia province. The new contingent of 130 troops from the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry will join the current 750 troops at Kandahar and elsewhere.

The Toronto Star has a story on a Canadian military officer stating that the several recent attacks on the Kandahar airbase are likely an organized effort rather than the work disgruntled locals. Canadian troops have a role in protecting the base’s perimeter.
