Pink Tie Power!

The University of Waterloo won 3rd place in the 2002 ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest with 6 of 9 problems solved. The winner has Shanghai Jiao Tong University, also with 6 questions solved but in a shorter time.

One reason for UW’s success is lots of practice.

Any feedback on O'Reilly's Programming ASP.NET would be great. In a 944 page book, spending 51 pages documenting the Calendar control did not seem too useful to myself.

Wal-Mart, keeping customers one at a time

A woman in visiting a Wal-Mart had her arm trapped in a newspaper vending machine. Initially following company policy, the Wal-Mart employees did not help her escape from its clutches until twenty minutes had passed.

Great Canadian Digitial Media Rip-off

The National Post comments on Canadian Private Copying Collective tax grab on CD-Rs, CD-RWs and other digital media. The Toronto Star’s Linwood Barclay reminds us that the tax on pens and paper is due to start this July.

Did Maxim declare your city "the Greatest City on Earth"? Well it said the same about twelve other cities, as the award is simply a marketing tactic backed up by multiple versions of the magazine. In one of thirteen versions the target cities (Toronto, Philadelphia , Detroit, etc) are called the best, in the others they are insulted.
