Old Techniques Revisited
The Jerusalem Post has an article on one of the tactics the Israeli Defence Force used during its recent raids in Palestinian refugee camps. Using electric-powered carbide discs, troops cut through walls between adjacent houses to avoid moving in the narrow alleyways, some of which were mined and booby-trapped. The Israelis describe the technique as one used by the Russian Red Army against the Germans in Stalingrad. This fighting method was also used by Canadian troops during the battle for Ortona, Italy in 1943, where the use of explosives to blast holes between houses was known as "mouseholing"
