Canucks in Kandahar (and elsewhere)

CBC reports that Canadian troops will lead an attack against a small pocket of Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters. Also reported, Canadian snipers killed enemy troops during Operation Anaconda.

Slate has an article on how the data from unmanned drones can be misinterpreted leading to attacks on civilians and other mistakes. Interestingly the article does not discuss if the same mistakes are more or less likely to occur if the drones were replaced by manned surveillance planes.

Guardian of Bias

The Guardian discusses their view of the Middle East, in the midist of their column is the interesting statement:

The only captured territory given back by Israel was the Sinai Peninsula, captured from Egypt but restored after the Camp David agreements of the late 1970s.

The Sinai Peninsula is of course larger than all of Israel and the West Bank combined, but The Guardian does not include this fact. Plus until Arafat’s War started in 2000, Israel had given 48% of the West Bank to the Palestinians.
