Outside of Society
Nice site from Klas Kroon with some great tutorials on tile-based games in Flash and a whole load of demos - "Ok, I hope these tutorials will help someone out there, if not, at least I tried" - thanks for the work Klas, I'm sure alot of people will find them a great help :) [via Eric Dolecki]

F'D Company on Macromedia Layoffs
SWFNews posted up this link - don't know how much truth in the story but the comments are some of the funniest things I've seen in a while. What's the demographic of the average 'Flash suckz d00d!' poster? First person with a scheme to harness all this pent up energy will make a million. Winning post has to be this though, in reply to Flash dissing:

"Can you portray a really cool monkey, in a green visor hat (that accountants wear), while they punch the keys on a calculator, with a cigar--no, wait, a pipe---puffing in his mouth? Then, the phone rings, and he picks it up, but the phone IS A BANANA???? F**k no. Only Flash lets you do that. "

That's the new Flash marketing campaign sorted then ;)

Component Friction
Lots of mailing list inches being written about the new Flash MX component sets, most of it pointless noise along the lines of "I can build a component that does full immersive VR and makes the tea in 300 bytes". Branden Hall was so incensed he wrote a rant on the whole issue and David Doull has written a more contemplative piece (thanks for the latter link Jarle).

Granted, the current MM component set could do with some more detailed documentation but even taking that into account the choice is simple. If the odd few K here and there is an a big issue in your project it's probably better to roll your own. If it's not (and if it's of any size it won't be) go with the MM ones - you'll save yourself alot of time.

New Flash MX Resources at Macromedia
Mike Chambers regular update on new material on the MM site. A couple of nice articles on usability and John Dowdell asks "Are you finding what you need at the Designer & Developer Center?" - click over there and tell him what you think.
