"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Boondocks: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld reassured the public today that Iraq is a starving, demoralized country whose antiquated military will be no match for the technological might of the United States. He then went on to add that the U.S. must attack immediately, as Saddam Hussein is the single greatest threat to the continued existence of life on the planet Earth.

Little George is haunted nightly by the spirits of war-mongers past. The words change, but the melody remains the same: "Everybody says I seek war, but I must be conscious of my responsibilities. The menace to our country is such that it cannot be ignored. There is ample proof of the aims of our enemy, and I thank God Almighty for giving me the strength and the knowledge to do what must be done." --Adolf Hitler

Bertin [commondreams.org]: " Among the less well-known aspects of the Patriot Act are provisions permitting the Justice Department to obtain information secretly from booksellers and librarians about customers' and patrons' reading, Internet and book-buying habits, merely by alleging that the records are relevant to an anti-terrorism investigation.

..."In a sample of 1,000 libraries responding to a survey last February, 85 reported receiving requests to turn over information about patrons to police or FBI agents."
