 So Peter, Seth, and I are trying to setup Peter's TiVo (a Christmas present from moi). We used this opportunity to completely re-do the entertainment center. That part went relatively well and things are much cleaner now. We even installed an A/V switch.
Our problem is now TiVo itself. We simply cannot get it to make its set-up phone call. We've tried everything - all the different permutations of its set-up options, every different phone jack possible, used my portable computer's dial-up modem to verify that the phone lines can support dial-up, etc. Nothing works - we either get no dial tone, phone line busy, or line unavailable.
And of course, when we finally broke down and called Tivo customer service, they had just closed. sigh....So first thing tomorrow, I'll call Tivo.
I have a sinking feeling that our TiVo may be defective and I'm going to have stand in the dreaded returns line at Best Buy tomorrow. A fate worse than death.
And, here's the killer: I also got Mom and Lowell TiVo for Christmas. They hooked up their TiVo last night and everything's working like a charm. Mom calls us every 1/2 hour to tell us all about the latest neat thing they've discovered about their TiVo. sigh...
