My new cowboy boots have been acknowledged by a total stranger as fabulously cool:
Yesterday morning, as I ascended to corporate america, two well dressed young women deep in conversation got into the elevator. One of them happened to glance down, saw my boots, and immediately broke out of the conversation to urgently ask:
Where did you get your Ropers?
For a second, I wasn't even sure she was talking to me.
Ropers? I replied.
Yeah. Where did you get a pair of Ropers with crepe soles? They're not sold anywhere in Alaska.
It dawned on me:
I picked them up last week in Kansas - at Sheplers. I proudly responded.
Well, they're really cool and I'm totally jealous.
That little exchange made my whole morning!
Oh - When I got to my office, I looked at the bottom of my boot - sure enough, there was the brand name Roper. However, I've also discovered that roper also refers to the classic cowboy boot style. How about that?!

Lagoon Ice Condition Update and Weather Report
As I type, it's 37 degrees F and raining. The forecast is for rain and wet snow through tonight and into tomorrow.
This afternoon, Peter spotted a total idiot and his dog dashing across the width of the Lagoon. They made it from the south shore to the north shore without falling through. So, file that bit of idiocy away as a data point and be sure to enter the 2nd Annual Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic
