I just love the Brown Palace. Architecturally, it's just a real little triangle marvel in steel. The staff is absolutely top notch - but still delightfully fun and accessible. This evening, when I went down to the bar to get a decaf skinny wet cappucino (my evening drink), the bar pianist was playing the show tune "All That Jazz" and the entire bar was singing along - what a hoot. And how did absolutely everyone in the bar know the words?
By the way, this is the very first picture I took with my Sony DSC-F707 digital camera a year and a half ago. I purchased it here in Denver with my Dad.

I arrived in Denver (my birthplace for those not in "the know") early this evening and just made it to the Brown Palace (literally one of my favorite hotels in the world) just ahead of the most amazing storm that roared through here. The usual thunder and lightening - but accompanied by a torrential downpour, some flooding, power outages, major traffic accidents, etc. Fortunately, one my all time favorite best buddies, Lucy Strupp, and I were comfortably ensconced at Barolo Grill, sipping on the most fantastic wine and watching the really stunning weather through the window. This grainy little picture was taken with my Sony Clie from restaurant.
Speaking of wine, the wine Lucy and I slurped right up was a 1998 Gianni Gagliardo Barolo. A fantastic nebbiolo - tarry and fruity but so smooth. It is such a treat to have the opportunity to drink great Italian wines. Alaska is a fabulous place, but for some reason, we just don't get many Italian wines. So I definitely drink up when I'm Outside.
