Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Man. Whatta day. I definitely felt like it was a Steve Martin-John Candy 18 hour period.
I started the day at 5:00 AM in Keystone, Colorado. I set a land speed record from Keystone to the Budget Rental Car Return at Denver International Airport: 1 hour 10 minutes - I zoomed down the Rockies, that's for sure.
All that zooming was totally unnecessary - my 9:45 AM Denver to San Francisco flight was cancelled. Augh! I was supposed to meet the Ski Boy at the Oakland Coliseum for the A's - Red Sox game which started at 12:35 PDT.
I was rebooked on an 11:30 AM flight due to arrive in San Francisco at 12:30 PM. I might still be able to make part of the game.
I arrived in SF right on time. I hoofed it over from the International Terminal where my plane disembarked to the Domestic Terminal where my bag arrived. I then caught a cab into the city to the hotel. I arrived at the hotel at 1:30 PM. The game was an hour old.
I checked in. Ran the four blocks from the Drake Hotel down to the Powell Street BART station. Waited fifteen minutes for the BART to the Oakland Coliseum. Twenty minutes later I'm at the Coliseum BART station. Fifteen minutes later, at the bottom of the 7th inning, I'm in my seat next to the Ski Boy. whew!!!!!
The game went into extra innings and the Red Sox won! How perfect!
The rather astounding travel day was topped off by greeting my sister, Songya, at the Powell Street BART station after the game. She BART'ed in from Stanford. The three of us then took a cab to The Slanted Door, a most amazing high-end Vietnamese restaurant.
We had a fantastic dinner - it rated as one of my top five of all time. It was just stunning. My mouth is watering all over again as I type.
Peter and I fell into bed at 10:00 PM. I was one dead, but happy, puppy.
