Alaskans, Shoes, and Entryways
Our Entryway (and Clemmie).
So why, out of the blue, have I subjected my gentle readers to a picture of our somewhat out of control, but by no means, atypical Alaskan Entryway?
Well, my blog buddy, Robin has a very entertaining entry (way?) on her New York family's momentus decision to become a No-Shoes-In-The-House household.
Alaskans, always, absolutely always, take their shoes off when entering a house. Something about all that snow and mud.
House floor plans are often centered around very elaborate entryways.
The next house I have built or remodeled will feature an entryway with a hose and a grated drain area - a key item for hosing off dirty dog paws.
A few years ago, I had a young roommate. She was a very social individual and would occasionally have overnight friends. My roommate swung from both sides of the plate as it were - often, my morning's entertainment consisted of examining the shoes in the entryway in an attempt to ascertain the gender of our overnight guest.
