So, about an hour ago, I'm sitting in the hot tub. It's another cold evening: 5 degrees F. But the wind has died down, so no 25 below chill factor like last night. Anyhoo, I'm absently looking East, right at the constellation Leo, and whammo, the most magnificient shooting star goes screaming by. I was quite excited. And then I thought, "Hmmm...I wonder when the Leonid Meteor Shower is 'scheduled'." So, when I came inside, I surfed over to the Astronomy Magazine website, and guess what? The Leonids occur tonight!!!! Gads, talk about dumb luck!
The Leonid Meteor Shower - yet another reason to wear glasses while hot tubbing!

After seeing the movie American Splendor a few weeks ago, I was motivated to check out Harvey Pekar's comics. So, whilst in Iowa City, the Ski Boy and I happened upon a spiffy comic book store. And lo and behold, there was the omnibus, The Life and Times of Harvey Pekar. Two of his anthologies collected rolled up into one book.
It is absolutely fabulous - I can't put it down. I grew up on comic books and have always been a huge fan. And Harvey's works are comics for grownups. They are just so good - he just tells stories of his everyday life. But my God, they are just so compelling. I don't know how he does it - but what a talent he has for relating what happens in his life. He's sort of a natural born blogger - only on a whole 'nuther plane.
For those not in the know, which is probably the vast majority of folks, I should explain - Pekar does not draw, he provides the text. Over the years, several comic artists have drawn for him, including luminaries such as Robert Crumb.
I am completely and totally hooked. What a find.
