26HL84. It has a great picture and we're super pleased with it.
We also have a fairly complicated home entertainment setup:
- A TiVo box(which of course, rocks).
- A motorola HD/DVR cable box.
- A Phillips DVD player/recorder.
- And of course, a VCR
- An A/V switchbox that all of the above plug into and then is plugged into the television.
The local Fox channel does not translate well over cable - the picture is heavily ghosted. Tuesday night, the Ski Boy and I were watching the first Yankees-Twins game on Fox. The picture was so grim, that we decided to bypass cable and just use the television's tuner. So, using the television's remote control, I entered channel "4" which is the local Fox channel.
Well, at that point, the picture just went kablooie. Total static. So, I went back to channel 3 on the t.v. - which is the assigned channel for cable. And still, total static. After much futzing about, I figured out that we could still get a picture if we used the Hi-Def connection. However, the HD connection is a completely separate connection that goes straight from the cable box to the back of the t.v. The A/V feed that the DVD player, TiVo and the VCR transmit through is plugged into another jack set in the back of the television - the "antenna 0" jack set. And it's the antenna 0 jack that seems to be sick.
I've worked my way through all the setup options several times and still no luck. And amazingly, the television does not appear to have a factory reset button. So, I have no way to go back to ground zero - the state the television was in when we unpacked it from its box. sigh...
I'm going to try one more thing - I'm going to plug the DVD player directly into the back of television in the antenna 0 plugs - thereby bypassing the rest of the system. If the television doesn't recognize the DVD player, then it's time to call the television repair folks.
I have never been this stumped on a home technology problem. I can usually work my way through all sorts of stuff. But this one is a real corker.
