Panoramic view of Bryce CanyonWhile in Utah, Andrea and I stopped in Bryce Canyon. If you have never been there, I would highly recommend it. Apart from being a spectacularly beautiful place, it is also close to the Glen Canyon Dam, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park.

Soccer (or football) is the most popular sport in the world. If you are one of those people who thinks that soccer isn't very popular in America, then maybe you need to think about what you mean when you say "America" [here]. In addition, hockey is no longer the number one sport in Canada [here]. With the Hispanic poplution expected to represent 25% of the U.S. population by 2050, there is a good chance that soccer could eventually eclipse football, baseball and basketball in the U.S. [here]. So, what does this all mean? It means that you should start playing soccer, of course. Many cities have leagues for beginners and intermediate adult players. Many, like Seattle, even have co-ed teams [here]. So, try it out.

This six to seven million-year-old skull was originally believed to be human. Now some archaelogists argue that the skull is from an early ape. (Photograph copyright AFP/CORBIS)Back in July, the fossil remains of what might be the oldest known human ancestor were found in Chad [Aug 7]. Now, there is a debate in the scientific community over whether the remains are, in fact, hominid [here].

"It does not share the single unifying feature of all humans and hominids, erect posture and obligate bipedal locomotion," said [Milford] Wolpoff [, an anthropologist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor]. "It could of course be an ancestor of both humans and chimpanzees, it certainly is early enough, but there is no reason to be sure it is the ancestor of any surviving species."

Whether the remains turn out to be hominid or not, it is good to have such a pivotal find to argue about. In the end the debate should improve our understanding of our own origins.

For whatever completely weird reason, if you use the MSN Search page in French and search for "kazaa destop", Synthetic Morpheme is the first result [here]. Somehow, I don't think I trust that search engine...

Microsoft sued Lindows over its name last year on the grounds of copyright infringement. Now, Lindows is seeking a summary judgement to dismiss the case [here].

How many times has a novice or inconsiderate lead smashed his partner into you or your partner? Unfortunately, this seems to be an all too common occurance. Here's a rant that was originally posted at SalsaGang that deals with this situation [here].
