A month ago, a man holding both Canadian and Syrian citizenship and residing in Canada was held for questioning at an airport in the U.S. He was subsequently deported by U.S. officials to Syria. Because of this incident and a general dislike for new "anti-terrorist" policies enacted by the Bush administration, Canada has issued a travel advisory informing it's Arab born citizens to avoid travel in the U.S. [Seattle P-I].

If you have ever looked at the moon low on the horizon and thought that it looked big, or looked at the moon in the sky and thought it looked small, you may be wondering why the moon seems to change size. I had always heard that it was due to atmospheric lensing resulting from the fact that the light from the moon has to travel through more atmosphere when the moon is low than when the moon is high. It turns out that this is a myth and that the real reason has to do with an idiosyncrasy of human perception [Space.com].

The United States and France are getting closer to reaching a compromise on the United Nations Security Council resolution on Iraq [The New York Times].

American officials and foreign diplomats said that under the proposed compromise, the United States would take part in a Security Council debate if Iraq failed to comply with expected new United Nations demands for the destruction of its chemical and biological weapons.

The Bush administration has repeatedly stated that the U.S. will go it alone if the U.N. doesn't do something about Iraq. But for the time being, it seems they have agreed to debate a second resolution before taking action.
