STC-centric blog announced

Guy K. Haas, "software exegete in the Silicon Valley," officially announced his new blog, focused on encouraging discussions of all things STC, to the TECHWR-L mailing list. Check the posts for some intriguing discussion items, and comment if so inclined. An alternate address for the blog is http://guy.blogs.at.

For fun, search Google on "STC blog" or on "STC weblog"--Guy scores higher than Fred, because Fred links to Guy but not vice-versa. Guess I'm too controversial. . .

New television season brings a quandary--

The new television season is upon us, and I'm overwhelmed with demands on my time. Among the shows beckoning to me:

  • reruns of La Femme Nikita, the dark, classy series originally on USA, now running at 5:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, plus weekends, on the Oxygen network;
  • reruns of The Larry Sanders Show, formerly of HBO (I think), now Monday through Thursday 10:00 & 10:30 on Bravo;
  • reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on FX, weeknights at 7:00 p.m.--why they started over with Season 1 and skipped Season 5, I don't know, unless it's because the new season takes us back to Sunnydale High, "back to the beginning;"
  • a new season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tuesday nights at 8:00 on UPN, repeated on the weekend on Fox;
  • the Louis Vuitton Cup, the challenger elimination series leading up, over four months, to the 2003 edition of America's Cup yacht racing in New Zealand, live (and taped) on OLN weeknights at 6:00 p.m. (Tonight's racing (tomorrow afternoon in NZ) cancelled due to too much wind).

You may have noticed that not one of the shows listed above is new this season, and not one appears on one of the big 3 (or 4?) networks. What's it say when the best thing on the tube is reruns? And with my current workload, I can work and watch all these shows only by not sleeping. If I tape any, there's no chance I'll have time to watch the tape and the next shows. I know, some problem!

As Warren Zevon said, "I'll sleep when I'm dead."
