JDBInsight looks like a good way to debug JDBC performance problems. Anyone used it? But for $USD895? Ouch. [The ServerSide]

Craig Liddell on SMS and it's rapid adoption by advertisers. You see a lot of articles on this and see more competitions using SMS daily, but they never talk about how much the phone companies benefit? 100,000 SMS entries for one contest means that Vodafone, Telstra and Optus are surely your new best buddies? I haven't seen AOTC yet, but more and more reviews like this can only reduce my expectations, thus I'll be pleasantly surprised.
In space, no one can hear you groan. The soul-deadening string of clichés that is "Attack of the Clones" must immediately be shot beyond Pluto where it can do no harm. [Salon.com]

Following in Amazon's footsteps:
Linux grabs big win with Reuters. Reuters will announce plans Thursday to bring its financial information software to Linux in conjunction with Red Hat, Intel and Hewlett-Packard, sources say.
It makes sense for big corporates to use Open Source. It's not only about better software, it's about hugely reduced cost savings. I've always wondered why companies sometimes don't just hire a few top-class developers to fix problems or missing that prevent them buying Open Source rather than spending millions on closed source. Perhaps they could resource pool programmers? Interesting. [CNET News.com]

Macromedia and Sun have partnered together to create their new Java Application Development Center. Perhaps I can find someone to talk to to fix the problems our users are having with JIRA on JRun. I've also emailed some people I know at MM to get help, to no avail. I think I'll try emailing mesh, he's a Flash guy but hopefully he can put me in touch with the right JRun people. [mesh on MX]
