David Stephenson explains how companies can benefit while implementing better homeland security practices.  He also points to EmXML, the emerging interoperability standards for emergency management.

There are a whole bunch of things that emergency management and public safety people should be aware of here in terms of emerging standards, such as the automatic crash notification initiative which provides for sharing of vehicular accident data and NMRI which provides for sharing between private services like OnStar and public sector emergency response agencies.

The Summit of the Americas begins today in Monterrey, Mexico.  The Summit has set up the Virtual Parliament of the Americas, an on-line tool facilitating the interaction of parliamentarians.  There's some interesting stuff in the Summit Report, but relatively little on e-government and technology.

I'm a little underwhelmed with Monterrey's (the host city) municipal website.  I know some great technologists who live in Monterrey.  Find the latest news from Monterrey on Milenio.com.
