Amazon is taking orders for the Segway Transporter. While these are incredibly cool gems of engineering, I worry that they miss some fundamental issues of moving people around - not the least of which is a poor match to the geographic layouts of most cities. They are also incredibly expensive - you could get a few amazing bicycles or tricycles for the price. I wish them luck, but I suspect this is a flash in the pan.

If you must have a very unusual vehicle, why not something like a rocket powered homebuilt? You will have to do the airplane, but the folks at XCOR can supply rocket motors for your project. Don't laugh - these are very serious rocket engineers .

A few people are taking them up on the challenge with Bell X-1 and ME-163 Komets being built for future Oshkosh shows. Wow - and I thought Delmar Benjamin's Gee Bee R-2 replica was as exotic as things would get.

From replica airplanes to replica PCs. It isn't an Altair, but it is a significant device of the mid 1970s when the PC world was being shaped. (the claim is that Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard for financial reasons when he saw the Altair on the cover of a Popular Electronics magazine).

There is interesting folklore that someone is trying to offer a replica kit of the Apple 1 ... If I had money I'd buy one as this was a very interesting design with Woz's fingerprints all over the place. Will it happen or will Apple claim someone is trying to see an Apple clone?
