What if Fox News covered earlier moments in American history?

First Monday recently ran a piece by Jonathan Sallet on open networks.

Recommended reading. A nice historical discussion through the current state and a section on the February, 2003 FCC Unbundling Order.

It isn't clear what will happen in the next decade. My own guess is that no one will come up with convincing reasons to move to higher bandwidth access (fiber to the home) on a major scale. The providers are in terrible financial shape and investors have been burned. Compelling reasons to move beyond the current level of broadband infrastructure just don't seem to exist.

If you are getting addicted to the green phosphor images of image intensifiers, you can always buy one for personal use.

ATN offers a variety of devices and has a brief discussion of the various generations of tubes (I wasn't aware of the difference between third and forth generation). People who are serious about observing animals might find this sort of thing useful.

Bats are another interesting thing to "look" for at night. Inexpensive frequency dividers are available for about $75. If you know which end of a soldering iron to use check out these plans (you could easily make improvements).
