If you are using Castor JDO, you should be using the Castor Doclet to generate your mapping files.  It's a wonderful source code generator.  The doclet takes special Javadoc tags that you put in the source for your classes you want to persist to the database and creates the JDO mapping files automatically from those tags.  Brilliant!
