Chapter One: Kevin Mitnick's story. Here it is [The Register]

I believe this is exactly from the book.  I haven't got my copy with me to verify.  There is one paragraph that looks different to me, but I could be wrong -- it might be the same.

Kevin Mitnick's 'lost' bio. Personal story axed by publisher [The Register]

I agree with this synopsis/review of the book.  It is one of the most enjoyable and readable books on security I've ever encountered.  In addition, I think this is an excellent text to show the world how true the old addage is -- "Locks only keep honest people honest."  The skilled social engineer doesn't even touch the lock...

I'm now in the last few chapters of the book, and I can't recommend it strongly enough.

Exemptions to Copyright Law Sought. As corporations and musicians continue to flex their muscles under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, security researchers, academics and private citizens are petitioning the federal government to grant key exceptions to the controversial law. [Technology News from eWEEK and Ziff Davis]

In the end, is DMCA really going to be good for anything?  I think it's time for Congress to go back to the drawing board.  While they're at it, maybe they should get a wide sampling of real experts to help them make the law.  You know, listen to the people...

That probably wouldn't even work, though.  By the time the bill became a law it would have so many riders on it, it may not even resemble the original bill.  It's cases like this where there needs to be some kind of control that says -- we want this bill, only this bill, and nothing but this bill.
