Statewatch: "On 19 January 2006 the EU Gendarmerie Force (EGF) involving para-military police forces from Italy, Spain, France, Holland and Portugal will be launched in Vicenza (Veneto), Italy. Vicenza is the seat of Camp Ederle - the third largest US base in Italy.
The EGF involves the French Gendarmerie, the Italian Carabinieri, the Portuguese Guardia Nacional Republicana, the Dutch Royal Marechausee and the Spanish Civil Guard.
The idea of creating a para-military police force in the EU capable of acting within and outside has been part of the planning for its military role. It was the EU Council at Santa Maria da Feira on 19-20 June 2000, when considering the creation of the mechanisms for 'non-military crises management', which agreed that EU states would 'cooperate voluntarily'."

Xinhua: "A lawmaker from Pakistan Bajur tribal region said on Friday that an American spy plane fired missiles on three civilians' houses, killing 18 people, including women and children."

Scotsman: "Hundreds of foreign Islamic fighters are gathering in Afghanistan ahead of the deployment of 4,000 British troops to the country in the spring.
British intelligence sources have told The Scotsman Islamic radicals sympathetic to al-Qaeda see Afghanistan as their new frontline and are starting to shift the focus of their anti-western campaign from Iraq.
'Attacks in Afghanistan are now running at more than 500 a month - it's getting as dangerous for westerners as Iraq in some places,' said a British officer involved in planning the NATO 'peacekeeping' mission in the south-west of the country."

What is the West up to? A new World War? While Iraq and Afghanistan are complete failures, they are already planning for Syria and Iran. Madness!
The Dutch government speaks of 'peacekeeping' and 'rebuilding' Afghanistan. Terminology won't change the harsh reality of mass murder and an intensifying conflict.

Why shouldn't a right-wing extremist like Alito be appointed to the Supreme Court? For one thing, his views on abortion clash with those of the majority of Americans. As the Supreme Court gets a right-wing majority the extreme right will see this as a licence to ruin America even further. Republicans have lied, have cheated and continue to do so. These people cannot be trusted. Power is what they are after and that includes suppressing the Democrats (who, by the way, seem to act like puppy-dogs) and everything that is progressive in America.

ThinkProgress: "During this morning's hearing, Sen. Russ Feingold noted that the same lawyers who created the legal justifications for Bush's warrantless domestic spying program coached Alito about how to answer questions during the confirmation hearings."

But this beats all:
ICH: "Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito said US law is unclear as to whether President George W. Bush could launch a military invasion of Iran or Syria without congressional approval."

If Alito is unclear about this, he is either incompetent or fraudulent.
The American Constitution is quite clear on this.
"The Congress shall have power to declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water;
to raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years...
The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

With Alito, George Bush will have a Supreme Court that can and will grant him supreme power. The American Constitution was made with the precise purpose of limiting the power of the President and the Federal Government. In order to circumvent the articles of the Constitution Bush needs a compliant Congress and a compliant Supreme Court that will let him usurp their powers.
NationalArchives: "The word of the Supreme Court is final. Overturning its decisions often requires an amendment to the Constitution or a revision of Federal law."
This is Bush's loophole with which he can bypass the American Constitution. Who is going to question the judgment of a Supreme Court, even when the Court acts in flagrant defiance of the spirit and words of the Constitution?

Slowly but surely America is turning into exactly the opposite of what its Founders intended. What is happening now is an abomination, it is essentially the corruption of the Constitution and Democracy. The Power of the People as defined by the American Constitution will be null and void.
Appointing Alito would be another step in the direction of a totalitarian America.

Recently, Bush declared he could ignore statutory mandats, that is Congress and the Supreme Court.
WashingtonPost: "The Bush administration took the unusual step yesterday of asking the Supreme Court to call off a landmark confrontation over the legality of military trials for terrorism suspects, arguing that a law enacted last month eliminates the court's ability to consider the issue."

Soon Bush won't even have to ask the Supreme Court or Congress for anything. The pervertion of law and justice under Bush is reaching its apogee. The man who should be impeached is getting more power each day. America, wake up!
