Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

"We're just ordinary average guys"

Well, I've had more than 24 hours to consider the R. Walsh piece questioning the value of blogging. The article doesn't make sense. And it doesn't make much sense for me to get upset. The temptation is for me to be sarcastic and indulge in a bit of good natured ribbing. I'll refrain.

I've learned to enjoy the blogging experience. I'm part of this community. Certainly, what I have to say isn't always exciting. Perhaps it isn't always insightful. It's me.

Sure, blogging is personal. But that's what I like. To Jeff, Brian, Phil, Rich, Pete, Barry, Steve, Allen, Jason, Dan, Al, Steve, Dave, Val and others, thanks for letting me get to know you better. Thanks for sharing and thanks for taking the chance to get to know me.

To those who think that bloggers are egocentric, boring and embarrassing, I recommend the following lyrics from another Walsh:

Ordinary Average Guy
by Joe Walsh

I'm just an ordinary average guy
My friends are all boring
And so am I
We're just ordinary average guys

We all lead ordinary average lives
With average kids
And average wives
We all go bowling at the bowling lanes
Drink a few beers
Bowl a few frames
We're just ordinary average guys
Ordinary average guys

And every Saturday we work in the yard
Pick up the dog do
Hope that it's hard (whaf whaf)
Take out the garbage and clean out the garage
My friend's got a Chrysler
I've got a Dodge
We're just ordinary average guys
Ordinary average guys
