"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Five time Winner

Follow-up from yesterday. Armstrong lost 15 seconds to Ullrich today, but otherwise had no problems with the 20th stage of the Tour de France and joins Indurain as a five time winner. Congratulations Lance!........

Politics

I don't consider myself either conservative or liberal. Those labels are too narrow and confining. I'm an economist. We think of ourselves as independent from the sometimes "nonsense" of the political process. It's fun to watch the major political parties thump on each other.

So, it is with some small bit of enthusiasm that I recommend Ann Coulter for your reading enjoyment.

Coulter is a right-wing Republican who isn't afraid to take on Democrats, Feminists, the Press or any other liberal establishments. I've enjoyed reading her weekly column. And whether you agree with her or not, she makes you think. And I imagine she induces the use of strong language by some.

The Washington Post, a favorite target, says of Coulter, "A fluent polemicist with a gift for Menckenesque invective....she can harness such language to subtle, syllogistic argument." Well, that is the type of language that is regularly used by Coulter, too. So enjoy her writing. And be sure to make good use of a dictionary. She will challenge your vocabulary........
