"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ben Who?

A young unknown by the name of Ben Curtis won today's British Open. Talk about life changing events. His life will be forever changed. In Great Britain it is known as The Open. There are no tournaments anywhere in the world that mean as much to golf. Not even the Masters.

On a happy note: Tiger Woods still has not ever come from behind in a major to win. He's 0 for everything in that department. Perhaps he is only a front runner. If he isn't leading after Saturday's round he hasn't had the stuff to catch the leader.

For me it is something very basic. Golf is a darn hard game. Professional golf is unreal. Make a couple of little mistakes and drop like a rock on the leader board. The press needs to be very careful in assigning labels like The Greatest Golfer of All Time before the story is complete.

Until this weekend Ben was ranked 396th in the world. I expect that will change. One thing is certain, no one will mistake him as the best ever.

That distinction may belong to Tiger. Time will tell..........
