Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Restless

No sleep last night. After making a big decision about what Layer 3 equipment to compliment our GeoMax project I stared at the ceiling all night.

This wasn't so much a case of buyer's remorse as a case of "just how do I pay for this" worry. The best (but not perfect) analogy I can come up with is that I was presented with three options. If this were a transportation problem the options would be along the lines of:

Option one: a Bicycle

Option two: a Moped

Option three: a Car

In this case we absolutely needed the car. But it's so much more expensive. And in my mind I kept asking, "can't we get along by using a bicycle?" The obvious answer, after hours and hours of discussion and thinking is, no, we can't.

Using a moped would have certainly been better than using a bike. It has characteristics of the car. And, unfortunately, characteristics of the bike. It could work, but not perfectly.

The car was the option we needed. That's the option I chose. But it is expensive, much more so than the bike. So now I'm left with the problem of how to make the payments. At least it's my problem and it is contained. Buying the bike would have made a bigger problem for everyone else...........
