How to get a great deal on the new SprintPCS Treo 600:
First buy a Handspring Treo 300 from Amazon. They have the Treo 300 Phone (SprintPCS) for free after rebate and activation, along with free shipping. Handspring sells the Treo 600 to previous Treo owners for only $399, versus the normal price $449 after a $150 rebate, plus you get to keep the Treo 300 and can sell it on eBay. [The Connected PDA]
Clever, isn't it!!

Tue 14 Oct: New York NY - B. B. King's
No merchandise and CDs for sale at B. B King's tonight. They want 30% on everything. I don't think so!!

Soundcheck was awful, but I think the place sounds a little better with people in it....

I got a chance to finally meet John F. Simon at his studio today. His artwork was shown at Site Santa Fe last year and I was very impressed. I got in touch with John via email and found out about his talk last Summer, which was very interesting as it paired John F. Simon Jr. with James Crutchfield from the Santa Fe Institute. The conversation focused on the creative aspects of computer coding, including the play between code that creates itself (the internal program on the computer) and the act of writing code (the author/programmer)....sounds boring, but it was actually quite exciting I thought, because the two speakers touched on fractals and many other interesting subjects....

I bought one of John's pieces last year and have enjoyed it very much. It was great meeting him today at last.

We haven't had a chance to go and try this out yet ourselves, but a group of artists sponsored by Panasonic have created a special program for PDAs called PDPal which visitors to Times Square can download from a special kiosk on 42nd Street. They can then use the program to annotate their journey on a map which they can upload to the web to share their experiences and explorations of the area with others. Whether anyone will actually want to sift through an archive of other people's strolls through Times Square is still unclear. Read [Via Palmtops.About.com]... [Gizmodo]
I downloaded the software half an hour ago and will participate in this game? art? advertisement? Software is simple, black and white, and not at all impressive....

Demonstrating once again how embarassingly far behind the cellphone industry is here in the US, in South Korea banks, credit card companies, and the cellular carriers have teamed up to make it possible for people to easily make purchases with their cellphones:Instead of handing over credit or debit cards that get swiped, users type their passcode on the phone keypad, point the device at a special receiver on a checkout counter and press a key. It's as simple as operating a TV remote. The phone shoots the card data in an infrared beam or radio waves. No signature is necessary. For small payments at vending machines, the passcode isn't even required. Transmissions are encrypted and secure, and subscribers who lose their phones can get them disabled within seconds by informing the credit-card company. Phone owners can apply transactions to either credit or debit accounts.By the end of the year about... [Gizmodo]

Good Grief. This is mind-boggling. Mad. Check out Andrew Lipson's Lego Page. Especially Escher's Relativity. My brain hurts just looking at it. [The Cartoonist]
Pretty amazing. Legos were a pretty big part of my childhood....never did build a lego guitar....
