A work of Land Art situated in a remote area of the high desert of southwestern New Mexico, The Lightning Field is comprised of 400 polished stainless steel poles installed in a grid array measuring one mile by one kilometer. The poles, two inches in diameter and averaging 20 feet by 7 1/2 inches in height, are spaced 220 feet apart and have solid pointed tips that define a horizontal plane. Since it is intended that visitors experience The Lightning Field alone or with a small group of people over an extended period of time, Dia provides simple accommodations for up to six people for overnight visits during the months of May through October. A friend told me about his experience of the lightning field and now I definitely want to go.....

John Wayne Tree Removal That's a sign I saw a lot today. What do they do? Blow up trees with canons? Pulverize them with six-shooters?

Yes, I did change my mind and ordered a Toyota Prius instead of the Honda Insight after much deliberation. I need the extra space inside. The car is expected to arrive in Santa Fe in December.
Includes intermittent rear window wiper; driver and front passenger seat-mounted side and front and rear side curtain airbags; anti-theft system and auto-dimming electrochromic rearview mirror with HomeLink® universal transceiver; Smart Entry & Start system; High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, integrated fog lamps and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC); JBL Premium 3-in-1 AM/FM Cassette/6-disc in-dash CD changer, nine speakers in seven locations and FM diversity reception; and voice-activated DVD navigation system with hands-free phone capability via Bluetooth TM technology
And of course most importantly, the Prius gets 55-60 mpg!! Here is a link to the how much would you save if you drove a Prius calculator...

To go with that brand new DVD-Audio car stereo that you are surely having installed at this very moment, Fujitsu is coming out with a 5.1-channel surround sound car amplifier and subwoofer. Read... [Gizmodo] 5.1 surround sound almost makes more sense in a car than in your home - unless you have a room dedicated to sitting in the center and listening......

Goya and the Chapmans Pondered a print I saw last night. The work is by the Chapman brothers, Jake and Dinos, from the UK. They bought a rare complete set of Goya's powerful Disasters of War etchings and then drew demonic faces of clowns and puppy heads onto the plates and inhibited them under the new title Insult to Injury.
When the brothers were accused of vandalism they responded by saying that they bought the set of etchings for $65,000 and sold them for $165,000 - how could that be vandalism.
All day I have been showing my friends this one print I got from a magazine and asking their reaction. If one defines art as an expression that makes us question reality and shakes us up - this is succeeding. It is breaking a taboo by messing with (defiling?) a famous work of art. I hope this does not herald a new trend, however.
On the other hand isn't it a tiny little bit like using samples in music?
