Electric Guitar
At the last two shows I went to see you at (both in Vegas, one being the 10th anniv. Tour, then the one directly after), you switched from an acoustic to a Fender Telecaster during "Ballad 4 Santana". Here, it looks like you're playing a Strat. What type of electrics do you enjoy playing? also, which string guages? (Can you tell I'm a guitarist? :) ) Brad • 11/20/03; 2:53:32 PM
I use D'Addario EXL 120 strings, which start with 009s for the high E. I have never owned or performed with a Telecaster. I love Strats, although I do also own a Gibson ES335 Custom. I bought the Gibson in Boston in 1984 and last used it on the "Opium" album, I believe. I am also going to try out one of the Line 6 Variax guitars sometime soon.
Is this another Vizcarra Strat? Do yu also have MIDI pickups on yr Strats? WHat synths do yu use? - Vikram • 11/20/03; 9:34:31 PM
Yes, it is my Vizcarra Strat with Joe Barden pick ups - no Midi pick up. Until a few years ago I used a Roland Strat, which I bought in 1983. It was originally blue and had a midi pick up which I ripped out. I painted the guitar white. It was too noisy and I asked Keith to build me a new Strat and to use the old Kahler whammy that had lived in the Roland Strat. The Joe Barden pick ups are amazing and very quiet. I recently asked Keith to find me a different whammy bar that pulls up as well, because this ancient Kahler only goes down. As for synths, I sold my complete Midi set up: the Vizcarra Flamenco guitar with the Midi pick up, the Roland GR-1 box and the Korg synth that went with it.
