As expected, no progress on the abduction issue between Japan and North Korea. One more day to go.

Not an earthshaking story but quite humorous. Too bad they didn't let reporters record the Elvis duo of Tom Cruise and Junichiro Koizumi.

We have not seen the so-called samurai movie, but if anyone out there gets a peek at it before December please let us know.

The best outcome that can be expected is an agreement for further meetings. The North Koreans really want to sit down one-on-one with the United States (actually done on the sidelines at the Beijing talks). The Japanese want the North Koreans to focus on the abduction issue (which they have apparently agreed to do). Any progress gives the Chinese a feather in their cap for emerging as a player in international diplomacy. The South Koreans, under a weak and unpopular president, are not sure what they want. (What they do not want is an invasion of North Korea). The Russians are there because their vice foreign minister is one of the few international diplomats to have build up trust with the North Koreans.

As many others have pointed out Iran is right up there with North Korea and much, much more of a WMD threat than Iraq was over the past decade.

The younger generation in South Korea apparently does not appreciate having foreigners taking their place to defend their own country against the most unstable, totalitarian and evil regime left on the planet which just happens to be walking distance from their nation.
