The normal school day morning routine around here involves me getting 5th grader Jesse up at 6:20 so he can climb on the bus at 7:05. In the middle of getting Jesse ready, I trek upstairs to give sophomore Jackson his 6:50 wake up yell which is always met with a groan. Josie is last, but she just gets up on her own while I am driving Jack to Grimsley for his 7:30 'zero period' English class. She goes out the door to walk the one block to Aycock starting at 7:25. Clockwork, we're talking clockwork here.
Jinni sleeps through it all. Not because of cancer or anything. She has always slept through it except when I'm out of town or have an early appointment... Like two days ago.
Because I decided late Monday evening to attend the Sit-In Breakfast, the normal routine was changed, but Jinni's alarm clock was not notified. On the way out the door at 6:15, I stuck my head in to Jesse and to Jinni to alert them that I was leaving. Jesse heard it - Jinni? No. So Jack was late for school, but Jesse made it on his own. And wanted everyone to know about it.
He apparently got up with no more urging, took his shower, got dressed, read the sports section of the N&R and still had time to leave us a hand scribbled note that was taped to the front door.
I got ready by myself! (draw smiley face here)
Jesse
PS. No parents necessary with 15 minutes left
I love the first part of his note, but hate the fact that he recognizes that the second part rings more and more true as he grows up. A puppy no more (sigh).
