I have a very low opinion of attorney Bill Agapion, Greensboro's most notorious slumlord. For decades, he has slithered nearly unscathed through thousands of previous efforts by local governments to get his vast holdings of rental properties in line with minimum housing standards, not to mention minimum standards of human decency.
Over the years, Agapion has utilized numerous lawsuits to thwart governmental efforts toward fixing up or eradicating his slums from Greensboro's housing inventory. However, today, finally, we read in the N&R that Agapion's cavalier attitudes toward his tenants' welfare and his the-authorities-can't-catch-me' nose-thumbing days may be numbered.
Kudos to the N&R's Lorraine Ahearn for bringing this little girl's story to light last month.
If convicted of the lawsuit's charges, hopefully Agapion will be required to pay a crap-pot full of money to help provide for the 3 year-old defendant's future welfare. I also hope that the judge has the legal leeway to further sentence Agapion to live out the rest of his miserable years in one of his own hell holes. That would be justice served.
