Columnist Kathleen Parker, "I think we can declare without fear of contradiction that rigor mortis is settling over the carcass of the Fourth Estate."
Parker says we are actually witnessing a double funeral. One for traditional media and the other for the freedom of people to speak freely in casual conversation.
She cites Jarvis' contention that "off the record is dead" and points out the killer may have been bloggers. I fear she is correct, for the most part. And that is a damn shame.
I, for one, still respect 'off the record' requests and I even take it one step further by asking people if it would be OK if I use information they give me on my Blog when they tell me something of interest. To do otherwise would isolate me from being fully involved in the community. Stifling any conversation, either on-line or off-line would be counter-productive to why I started blogging in the first place.
