I just got back from the "Global Symposium" and about to head out for dinner (it's 6 pm in Tokyo). In a room with 28 customers and 35 journalists from around the world, Yokogawa CEO Isao Uchida (Yokogawa's 10 president) reiterated his goal of making the company number one in industrial automation by 2010 as he pointed out some highlights from 90 years of achievement. Two customers also heaped accolades on the company suggesting reasons they are customers. Both personal and technical reliability headed those lists.
A technical fair showing past, present and future followed the event for these attendees. The fair had been open to Japanese customers yesterday, but demand was sufficient to open it to them again today. From chips supporting IP v 6 for instrumentation, strides in wireless 802.15.4 networking to high speed optical network switching, Yokogawa showed off its technical innovation side.
This is a company that historically has been the quiet company of industrial automation. No more. It is now unafraid of publicity. I think we will hear much more from it.
This trip will conclude process automation month for me after trips to both the Invensys users conference and the Emerson Process users conference. The next trip will be in the mostly discrete, albeit with some process also, world of Rockwell Automation.
More from Yokogawa tomorrow as it unveils a new product.
