Maybe it could happen... [posted by Troy] Here's a story about Chicago creating a wireless network across the city. Is this one of those things that would be too good to be true? What do you think? Can the that can't fund the CTA really pull this off? Is this a way to spy on citizens, help out Daley's buddies, or some other evil plan? What kind of server farm and hub system would you need to handle traffic from 2-4 million Internet users? If you can't find affordable housing, maybe you can at least use the Internet from your cardboard box under Wacker.

From Boing Boing [posted by Troy] We all know about the wonders that books bring to our lives, and it looks like the Mexican government is figuring it out as well. Cops in Mexico city have to read books. It is the latest project to help cops better themselves.

Mayor Daley hits the nail with a bullet [posted by Troy] You hear about this GAO report about terrorists getting guns? It has frustrated me because it is SO a 30 second news item that is here yesterday and gone today. It brushes over real issues and basically works to keep everyone on "yellow alert" looking out for the terrorist next door, while the 16 year old at school has the guns. I mean, really, any of us could own a gun by this afternoon. Background checks don't keep guns out of hands on our streets. Until the gun industry (NRA, etc) and the rest of us wake up, background checks (loophole city) won't work. Isn't it a bit ironic to worry about terrorists and guns when their are murders and armed robberies on a daily basis. Yesterday, Mayor Daley said basically that, but he said it in his very explosive, ironic and humorous Daley way. You want terror? Drive over the 26th and California. Shop for some real estate.
