Shatner's Reality TV [Jordan Express] In college, Jordan, Jeff, and I took a trip out to Riverside, Iowa, which is the "future" birth place of Captain Kirk from Star Trek. Well, the other day Jordan sent me this USA Today article about a reality TV show with William Shatner based in Riverside. It looks pretty bad, but maybe fun? I have to tell you that Riverside isn't all that big, so there isn't much there.

NPR Kevin Smith Interview [posted by Troy] I have to admit that I am a big enough nerd/geek/whatever to know who comic book writer Frank Miller is. I know him from his Dark Knight Returns graphic novel and Wolverine series, but I dropped out of the comic thing in the early-mid 1990s, so I don't know about Sin City, which opens today in theaters. I guess it was pretty good or something. Anyway, NPR had a good interview of Frank Miller by Kevin Smith. I know that comic books are dying out, but this movie may be worth seeing.

Focused Sun Lighted Destruction [from the Ahring directory] Solardeathray.com is a site about a homegrown death ray that melts things. Yes, this is real. Ahring recommends the about and FAQ sections of the site. The "Target Gallery" has images of items that have been melted by the power of the sun. This is a pretty inventive and humorous site with a little science mixed in. Here's a quote from the site: The Solar Death Ray works by reflecting the light of the sun from 112 mirrors onto a single spot. Anything in the spot (the target) starts to get hot. The target will continue to get hot until it reaches an equilibrium temperature. When the equilibrium temperature is reached, the object is reemitting as much light as it is absorbing. The reemitted light is infrared light, not the visible light from the sun. The infrared light is emitted simply because the target is hot.
